How To Texture an Artec Point Fusion

Although the Artec Point does not capture color, Artec Studio 20 allows you to transfer texture from an external photogrammetry model to a Point fusion. This process (often called 'Baking' or 'Transfer Attributes') requires both meshes to be aligned in position and scale.

1. Preparation

  • Import your photogrammetry .obj into the Artec Point project.

  • Rename your meshes (e.g., "Photo Mesh" and "Point Mesh") in the Workspace (F2) for clarity.

2. Initial Scaling

  • Photogrammetry imports are often much larger than laser scans. Hide the Point Mesh, select the Photo Mesh, and go to Editor > Transformation.

  • Input a rough Scale (e.g., 0.3) to approximate the size of the Photo Mesh.

  • Unhide the Point Mesh.

3. Alignment

  • Go to the Align tab.

  • Manually move the Photo Mesh to overlay the Point Mesh using these shortcuts:

    • Move: Ctrl + Shift + Middle-Mouse

    • Rotate: Ctrl + Shift + Left-Mouse

    • Reset Pivot: Double-click the center of the object.

  • Once overlaid, ensure Allow scaling is checked and press Enter to register them 1:1.

4. Transfer Texture

  • Go to Texture > Transfer.

  • Model to texture: Point Mesh.

  • Texture Source: Photo Mesh.

  • Set your output resolution and click Apply.
