  • What kind of power source does Artec Ray  II use?

Artec Ray II can operate either on battery power (using two batteries) or while connected to mains power (100–240 V).

The scanner is supplied with four batteries and a battery charger. Two batteries provide approximately 2.5–3 hours of operation and are hot-swappable.

Scanning without batteries is not supported. Even when the scanner is connected to mains power, two batteries must be inserted, as the device is calibrated to operate with them and cannot function without batteries installed.

(!) Power supply is an additional accessory and should be purchased separately.

  • How can I scan with Artec Ray II?

No, it is  not posible to use any other USB Flash driv only those suplied with Artec Ray II (2 USB drives are included in the default package). All scanned drive is stored on USB drive. It is capacity 256 GB.

Artec 3D USB drive has an industrial Grade - durable and reliable enough to withstand harsh conditions such as extreme temperatures, vibrations, shocks, and humidity. The grade is confirmed by testing.

  •  Can Artec Ray II be used in a non-horizontal position (upside down/sideways)?

Yes, Artec Ray II can be used upside down (inverted 180°, or angled 90°).

  • What tripods can be used with Artec RayII ?

The Artec Ray II scanner must always be used in combination with a tripod. Placing the scanner on the floor, table, or any other object is not recommended under any circumstances.
The tripod must be able to support at least 5 kg (11 lbs). Most engineering or surveying tripod should work fine. Heavier tripods will work best because they are more resistant to wind gusts and inadvertent tip-over. The Artec Ray II has a special adapter  to setup it on the industrial tripod with  5/8" mounting screw.

- Is it possible to scan with Artec Ray II without a Tripod?

Technically - yes. Practically - proceed with caution. While Artec Ray II can operate without a tripod, there are several important points to consider if you want reliable results. For optimal scan quality, workflow stability, and equipment safety, using a tripod is strongly recommended whenever possible. Going tripod-free should be treated as an exception, not a standard workflow.

Benefits:

- Access to tight spaces
Scanning without a tripod may be useful in locations where a tripod physically cannot be placed.

Potential Drawbacks:

- Reduced stability
Uneven or improvised surfaces can introduce vibrations, which may significantly degrade scan quality.

- Workflow complications
Automatic registration may become unreliable. If the scanner is moved during VIS operation, the camera lenses may be obstructed, leading to registration issues and requiring additional manual post-processing.-

- Risk of damage to the scanner base
Placing the scanner directly on rough or uneven surfaces for extended periods may scratch or damage the base. Over time, this can affect durability and may even lead to calibration issues.

- Safety concerns
A scanner placed on the floor or low surfaces increases the risk of someone tripping over it, potentially causing injury and damage to the instrument. Gravity is undefeated.

  • Does Artec Ray II have IP rating?

Yes, it is IP54 (IEC 60529)

  • What kinds of targets can be used with Artec Ray II?

Reference spheres can be used while scanning with Artec Ray II. For more information please check the article.

  • Is it possible to fly with Artec Ray II as a cabin luggage?

Yes, absolutely. The Artec Team often travels with the Artec Ray II stored in the Artec Backpack. However, the original red case is also suitable for use as hand luggage.

We strongly recommend removing the batteries from the scanner before the flight.

The battery has a voltage of 10.8 V and a capacity of 6900 mAh (6.9 Ah), resulting in a watt-hour rating of 74.5 Wh. This is within the typical airline limit of 100 Wh for batteries carried in cabin luggage.
